After a list of Poker Hall of Fame inductee finalists was released this past summer, many argued that a few of the names had no place being on there.
Well as it turns out, no one needed to be to concerned. Of the list of finalists, only one player will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.
Mike Sexton, an American professional poker player and commentator will be the Poker Hall of Fame’s single inductee in 2009.
Sexton has won one WSOP bracelet and over $3.7 million in tournament winnings. He’s also well known as the host of the World Poker Tour and as a spokesman for PartyPoker.com.
After finding out he’d been inducted, Sexton told PokerListings “It’s a nice honor. It really feels great. I'm truly flattered. Being inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame is about more than winning a tournament or having a good year. Essentially it is about having your career evaluated, being appreciated for what you've accomplished and what you've done for poker."
Considering a couple of the other finalists for induction were Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu, Sexton should feel pretty great knowing he beat out some of the best in the business for this honor.
