Pokerstars.net, the world’s largest poker school, has just announced their sponsorship of the High Heeled Poker Tour (HHPT).
This tour, exclusively for female poker players is designed to help women excel in what is primarily a male dominated field.
While the poker world is still dominated by men, the game is becoming increasingly popular with women. Poker’s online availability has really broadened its player base, and many of those players are now women. A recent poll found 25 percent of poker players to be women, and the number is increasing every year.
Unfortunately, many women are still intimidated by the game, and would never have the courage to enter a live tournament.
The HHPT seeks to put an end to that. It gives women a place to work on their skills and become more comfortable in a tournament setting before possibly moving onto the big leagues. It allows them to excel in a competitive live environment and to develop the confidence they’ll need to become successful at the game.
Founder Lauren Failla says,
“Women in poker are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with. With champions like Vanessa Rousso, Katja Thater, and Vicky Coren, our players have a whole new set of role models to emulate and challenge, online and at the tables.”
The Pokerstars.net sponsorship could open Failla’s up to a much larger market, hopefully increasing female interest in the game.
Who knows, maybe we’ll see the next WSOP champ come straight out of one of her tournaments.
