Russia is still going full speed ahead with their countrywide casino ban. The ban is to take effect July 1st and will outlaw every casino in the country, except for those in four approved gambling zones.
At the moment there are officially 30 casinos and 500 slot machine halls in Moscow alone. In a few weeks, they’ll need to close their doors, but no one seems to be moving too quickly to close up shop.
When the plan was initially developed, Russia’s four gambling zones were to establish a mini Russian Las Vegas. They were to be up and running before the ban took effect.
Unfortunately, the gambling zones are a little behind schedule. In fact, not one is ready for operation. Reports claim that construction on the zones hasn’t even started yet.
Many have said that work on the new zones has been slow because no one believed the ban would ever be properly implemented.
Whatever the reason, Russia is going to have an interesting situation on their hands come July 1st.
