The list of gaming sites that Minnesota’s Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division (AGED) wants blocked has just been released.
Now that the list has become public knowledge, quite a few questions have been raised.
Several sites on the list such as PartyCasino, Everest Poker and Virgin Games don’t allow US players. However, several of the biggest sites that do welcome Americans, such as PokerStars, Absolute Poker & Ultimate bet failed to be named.
AGED director John Willems defends the seemingly nonsensical list by saying it simply represents a random sampling of online gaming sites.
Joe Brennan Jr., Interactive Media and Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA) chairman, seriously questions this logic. He argues that the list makes the proposed censorship look like a “half baked attempt at intimidation rather than thoughtful enforcement.”
iMEGA is currently trying to prevent the censorship from being enforced. So far they appear to have the support of the state’s local internet providers. At this point, none seem very eager to block any of the 200 sites.
