One of the world’s most popular card games makes a successful jump online.
In the year since RummyRoyal.com debuted, Gin Rummy has taken a firm hold in the online gaming community.
The first site to offer Gin Rummy online, RummyRoyal.com has something for everyone. Fans of everything from traditional Rummy to tile based Kalooki and Mahjong won’t be disappointed.
The site is extremely user friendly and offers options for every skill level. Newcomers can brush up with the free demo option, while old pros can enter a huge selection of single and multi-table tournaments.
With over 250,000 registered players, online Rummy tournaments are starting to draw big numbers. And as we all know, big numbers mean big pots. Rummyroyal.com recently held their largest tournament to date with a guaranteed prize of $10,000. Not bad for their first year out of the gate.
One of the major reasons for the site’s success is likely its similarity to an online poker room. Very similar in both quality and format, the site is becoming quite popular with the poker community. And as both Rummy and Poker are card based games of skill, it makes sense that they’d share players.
As RummyRoyal.com grows in popularity, a number of competitor sites have begun to pop up. While the original is still my favorite, I think redhotrummy.com is a pretty great alternative. Red Hot’s tournament and community aspect aren’t quite as solid, but no download is required and they have great 3-D player avatars. This site definitely has a sexier look.
Wherever you choose to play, you’re going to have a good time. Land based or online, Rummy is a great game. Although I doubt the online transition will do for Rummy what it did for poker, it will be interesting to see what happens. Who knows, maybe in a few years you’ll see the WSOR on TSN. Stranger things have happened.
