Not that I'm one to assist a competitor... but I do believe strong competition makes competing worth it so here's my "two cent" (so to speak). There are various factors that will either help or be derrogatory to your cause, a big factor is the name. sharing a common name with popular sites has its advangtages but will rarely exceed a large site on an organic search due to the fact that an organic search is partly (and largly at that) based on the amount a term is searched and a link is clicked based on that search. this is what increases a natural ranking. Of course if your name is totally different you have the added problem of relating your brand name with the 'Product' or industry. Submitting a site all over the internet is always a good start but it wont get you right up there. We use a lot of text ads for our poker rooms and other sites and they work incredibly, but you must have a limited acceptance of where your ads will appear (commonly on porn sites) but remember if someone joins a pornography site they are already confidant enough to use a credit card online which is the first step. These ads will certainly get you site visits but you must be able to grab the attention of a person with immediate effect and use enticement of 'difference' to gather a community of players. If we're all honest we know that in essence most sites are basically the same. Very few are totally different so you need to show people why they should believe you are. For me, I work long hours and am a very personal person. I keep in regular contact with my players and they all feel they can contact me without any hassle and this makes the whole experiance more personal as there is a person ready and waiting to assist. If you require the services of SEO's then I recomend using contractors as oppose to companies. Search engine optimization is a highly complex industry and most companies try and stay away from gambling for the "face" of the company, where as contractors are less "picky" and have no moral standing on the gambling situation. My advice in the first instance would be to first of all let the world know your there. Generally done by E-Blasting. There are a lot of companies out there who have data very specific to the gambling industry and so purchasing 10,000 records will generally get you 2,000 hits and about 400 signups (on average) all though this is a drop from 10,000 in comparison to most techniques this is a very large ROI.
